Many visitors to Hustai National Park wish to stay overnight or for a weekend, and guests have several options for accommodation. A small ger camp is situated at the main entrance to the park. A ger (yurt in Russian) is a traditional Mongolian, round, lattice-framed felt dwelling. Surprisingly warm in winter and cool in summer, the felt insulates the ger against extreme temperatures, making it a comfortable year-round home. Each ger is equipped with beds, chairs, tables, storage space and wood stoves for heating, and can sleep up to four people comfortably.
Next to the ger camp is the national park's administration building. In a dining room where you may dine alongside staff and researchers, the kitchen staff prepare both Mongolian and Western dishes. All meals contain meat and the chefs are unable to produce individual meals to cater to specific dietary requirements. There is a small range of snacks and drinks (including beer and spirits) available for purchase, and you may also bring your own food and cook on the stove in your ger. If you do not have your own cooking equipment please discuss this with MACNE staff at the time of booking. The water for the ger camp is obtained from a well that pumps from an 100m-deep aquifer. Tests have shown the water to be 100% free from contamination and purification is not necessary. In the administration building you will also find modern toilets and showers. To minimise electricity, hot water is available in the mornings and evenings. Laundry facilities and a sauna are also available for a small fee. In the Moilt Valley in the northwest section of the park there is a small cluster of cabins. Located deep within the core zone of the park where Takhi and many other species are found, access to the area is strictly controlled and only a small number of tourists are permitted to stay.
The cabins have beds and bedding but no cooking facilities, and electricity is supplied by a diesel generator. Gas stoves and food for dinner can be brought from the kitchen at the ger camp, and picnic breakfasts and lunch can also be supplied. The camp has pit toilets but no showers or a reliable water source. The Moilt Camp is a pleasant four to five hour walk from the administration building. If you wish, you may spend a night in a cabin and walk back through the forests and open valleys of the park. Hustai staff can drive you to the camp and collect your belongings the next day, leaving you to hike with only day packs. There is one area you can camp in at the park. Located in the southern section of the park in the Tuul River valley, the camp site is found in a bend in the riverbank and is an excellent place for bird and frog watching.
To preserve Hustai's sensitive ecology, camping is not permitted elsewhere within the borders of the park. For a full list of accomodation prices please contact MACNE at 318 000.
