INTRODUCTION          
      In 1975 the Mongolian Society for the Conservation of Nature was founded, in 1990 it was reorganized as an "Association" being the first Mongolian non-governmental organization to be involved in environmental issues. At this time, MACNE has 36 branch organizations in 22 provinces of Mongolia, such as, Ulaanbaatar Railway, State Emergency Commission, some Protected areas, over 60000 members and about 300 member organizations.
      Main goals of MACNE are:
      -MACNE is an association of various societies, movements, cooperatives and private individuals all engaged in action to protect nature and wildlife;
      -Fostering the traditional Mongolian ethic of conserving nature and wildlife;
      -Focusing public attention on responsible use of land and restoration of natural resources;
      -Bringing proposals before the Mongolian Government regarding environmental conservation, including protection of territories under state control;
      -Reintroducing endangered species to their native wilderness habitat;
      -Developing ecologically responsible tourism;
      -Establishing contacts with foreign and international non-governmental environmental organizations;
      -Organizing training in environmental protection for children and young people.
      In 1995, MACNE became one of the 2 member organizations of Atmosphere Action Network East Asia (AANEA), which was organized in August 1995 as an International non-governmental organization.
      MACNE is only member organization of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and natural resources (IUCN) since 1997. From our history: In 20th of December 1974, the 541st resolution of Council of Ministers was approved on establishment of the Mongolian Society for the Conservation of Nature. Its the first Congress was held on in the 5th of December, 1975.
      " Nature conservation is a matter of general concern" report was discussed and Rules of this Society was approved from this Congress.

      "Unen" the main newspaper of Mongolia, during this time said in number 291 of 6th December, 1975 that, " 174914 people, 1501 governmental and non governmental organization joined, became as members of Mongolian Society of Conservation for Nature".
      On this way, Mongolians started to join with heart at protection, conservation of motherland, beautiful mountains, clean water, vegetation and wildlife. It became the fund of restore the many years traditional method of nature conservation. (5th Congress photo)
      In the first year of Democratic Revolution, in the 7th of May 1990, the IV Congress of Mongolian Society of Conservation for Nature was held on for reorganize this Society as an Association.
      The new Rules of "Mongolian Association of Conservation for Nature and the Environment" (MACNE) were approved from this Congress.
