International Association for Mongol Studies

The 5th International Congress of Mongolists, held in 1987 established the International Association for Mongol Studies. The congress elected O.Lattimore – a well-known mongolist scholar of the USA as the President of the Association.

The Statute of the Association was revised and adopted unanimously at the 7th International Congress of Mongolists, held in Ulaanbaatar in August 1997 and the Organization structure of the Association was renewed and elected.

The Association organized jointly with the National Commission of UNESCO and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences the Constituent Assembly for establishing in Ulaanbaatar the UNESCO International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilization. (Ulaanbaatar, 15-18 August 1998)
