Activities were undertaken:
1 A survey interviewing women prisoners was conducted. Women aged 26-35 represented
43.3% of respondents. The main causes of commiting crimes were found to be:
Lack of knowledge of the law (53.7%);
Humilation, ill-treatment and violation of women's rights to live human life(38.2%);
2 A survey of juvenile detainees found that children aged 15-18 represented 84.5% of
respondents; 60.3% reported lack of law education.
3 Another important activity was the special training "Advocacy for Children" conducted by HREC
in co-operation with children's organisations and Institute of Law in February 1997.
4 A seminar on "The Rights of Women and Violence Against Them" was organized together with
law enforcement agencies.
5 HREC provides people with legal assistance in order to restore their violated rights and protect
their interests.
