Introduction

The Mongolian National Eco-Tourism Society (MNETS) was founded as a social oriented non governmental organization on the 5th of April, 1995. Twenty-three members established this to develop in the Mongolia the environmental and social sustainable tourism.

Now the society has as members of 25 tourism related organizations, and also 183 researchers in the field of tourism, as well as students and people, who are supporting the goals of the society.

The president of the society leads and organizes daily operations. The top authority of the society is the yearly meeting of all members. The daily activities are led by the council with the president in charge.

The society is partly financed by membership fees from member companies, organizations and also the sponsorship of members. Financing is also provided by business activities, which are related to the implementation of the goals of the society, and national and foriegn financial resources from the implementation of projects.

Main directions of MNETS‘s activities                                                                                  

  1. It has organized training activities, which are required for organizing eco-tourism in the right way and cooperated with foreign projects in this field.
  2. To support the member companies the society is organizing different assistance activities with mongolian and foreign organizations and pro-jects, and would give more attention to those activities.
  3. The society would represent the members by approving laws, regulations, and other deci-sions for development and regulation of tou-rism in Mongolia following the concept of the society.
  4. The society would give an overviews about the interests of companies for activities like protec-tion and use of nature and environment, and also to solve social problems of the local people, would work to influence the outcome of the governmental authority about those compa-nies.
  5. The society would actively use public relations and advertisement activities for developing ecotourism following the concept of the society.
  6. The society is cooperating with related organi-zations for the establishment of an ecotourism network in the protected areas for implemen-ting the concept of using tourism in the pro-tected areas of Mongolia as an instrument of nature protection.
  7. In order to expand the activities of the society, the society would select reprensentives in the local area and foriegn countries.
  8. In order to distribute actual information about Mongolian ecotourism resources to the world, the society would collaborate with national and foreign related organizations to develop the project of an information network in tourism. The society will work on resolving the financial resources for that project.
  9. The society would attempt to cooperate with similar international organizations in the frame of the society’s purpose and would develop an outline for that activity.
  10. As a member of The Ecotourism Society (TES) we would cooperate in establishing a scienti-ficly researched based on the environmental impact assessment on tourism projects, in or-der to support and to develop sustainable natu-re related tourism in Mongolia.
  11. The society would take the main activities, on developing the ecotourism strategy of Mongo-lia, and would cooperate on that with govern-mental organizations.
  12. The society would suggest many kinds of joint activities in order to improve the coordination of activities and the relationship between non go-vernmental organizations related to tourism.
