  • We have expressed our interest to contribute in developing "Human Development  Report 2002"

  • We have ongoing projects on “Violence against women and its legal environment in Mongolia”, "Human Rights radio lessons" and newsletter "Human Rights and Development"

  • Implementing a research project on "Privacy and rights of STD affected people"

  • Implementing a project to teach "Introduction to Gender Study" on "Shinjeech-21", Social and Economic Institution in Mongolia

  • In March, N.Chinchuluun, Director, participated in "Assessment meeting on  campaigns for International Criminal Court"

  • In February, we orgainzed the first National Workshop on "Human Rights and International Criminal Court" in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  Ministry of Justice, National Human Rights Commission, Amnesty International in Mongolia and Asian-FORUM for Human Rights and Development

 

Last year:

2001 was full of work success. The results achieved in the program framework are introduced in brief.

  • Research and Documentation 

    • Child labor issue  

Research on child labor has done with the support of Save the Children, UK. Child employment situation on informal sector, in particular on the black market, their violated rights and their family life related issues and the recommendation on appropriate support to them covered in the research.   

    • Developing Gender Study: Needs, interests and resources

Research to evaluate needs, interests and resources of developing gender study has done in cooperation with Sociology sector, Institute of Philosophic and Sociologic Rights, Academy of Science. By this research, we aimed to reveal needs of “Gender study” in Mongolia. The research results showed that even though, a beginning of development in this scientific field of Gender Study has not been made significantly, social needs to develop it, specially at the academic level is increasing.  

    • Methods of Pasture land dispute settlement

The real situation of pastureland exploitation is analyzed in order to determine pastureland related dispute settlement, reasons and conditions. On the basis of the research, we developed a research, training and methodological handbook covered set of issues to refine Mongolian legislation in cooperation with academics and professors of the Animal Husbandry Institute of Ministry of Agriculture. T. Sengedorj, doctor professor of Law School, National University of Mongolia participated in the research, presenting the organization.

CHRD organized the round-table meeting and the seminar on related issue.   

    • Current Situation of Trafficking Related Issues in Mongolia

The organization made a research on the issue of trafficking in women for profit by prostituting them. From the research, it is revealed that cases of prostitution and trafficking in women for profit, tend to increase.  

    • Violence against women and its legal environment in Mongolia

The organization is implementing a 2 year- project on “Violence against women and its legal environment in Mongolia” for the purpose of refining legislation on women’s rights and discrimination against women, cooperated with National CEDAW Network and National Center Against Violation. In the first year of the project, CHRD researched and analyzed Mongolian 485 laws, 366 regulations and 985 rules.  

    • Human rights situation of vulnerable group

The organization involved in the research team to develop Human Rights Action Plan of Ministry of Justice. CHRD made a research on “Human rights of vulnerable group in Mongolia” and concluded a report.

In the research, the organization analyzed vulnerable groups of the society such as poor people, poor women and children, un-employers, disabled people, elders and groups whose rights are restrained by other causes except poverty.  

    • Human Rights Situation Record in Mongolia, 2001

Human rights situation record in Mongolia 2001 has been developed. In order to gather human rights violation facts, we did fieldwork researches in Bayandelger, Bayanjargal soum, Zuunmod city of Tuv province; Bayant, Jargalant soum, Khovd city of Khovd province; Darkad soum, Murun city of Khuvsgul province; Zamyn-uud soum of Dornogobi province and the remote districts of Ulaanbaatar. On the basis of gathered facts, we made a research on human rights related events and human rights violations.  

The gathered human rights violation facts are registered in the human rights violations database of the organization.

  

 

 

 

 

2.  Monitoring and Reporting

Developed 

 

    • Developed and published Human rights situation record, 2001 in Mongolia

Record consists from 5 chapters, 29 sub-titles and covered some topics, which were not included the previous record of 2000. It is remarkable that this record is written when a state system to provide human rights implementation, has been established.  

  • Advocacy 

-  We are distributing “Human Rights Situation Record in Mongolia, 2001” to the state and administrative decision-makers, staff from legal and supervisory authorities, local Citizens’ Representative Meeting, universities, NGOs and other related agencies.  

-  We submitted our application to make amendments to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure law in order to refine legislations regulating violence against women. In this regard, we met Parliament Speaker, Mr. S. Tumurochir, the  chairman of the Steering committee on Law, Mr. S.Sharavdorj.  

 

  •  Public Education

    • Website

In the frame of the program, the website is created. It will be updated on the quarterly basis. Website includes all the information on the activities and it is a means of information distribution and provision of education.  

    • Newsletter “Human rights and Development”

The newsletter is an information leaflet aims to raise human rights awareness among public. “Human Rights and Development”
