Mission of the CEDAW Watch
The countries signatory to the United Nations Convention
on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women
/ CEDAW / have assumed responsibilities to develop national policies
on the elimination of discriminatory practices in all spheres of
womens lives. Hence, having signed the Convention in1981,
Mongolia has accepted the CEDAW provisions and assumed the above
responsibilities.
The mission of the National CEDAW Watch Network Center is to monitor
and evaluate the performance of Mongolian government agencies (
legislative, executive and judicial ) in terms of fulfilling their
obligations under the CEDAW and promote a more effective implementation
of CEDAW in Mongolia.
The activities of the National CEDAW Watch Network Centers are
based on the Constitution of Mongolia and correspondent national
laws as well as International Conventions, Treaties to which Mongolia
is signatory and the Multilateral Agreement between Womens
NGOs.
Area of activities
In order to perform its activities the National CEDAW Watch Network
Center:
- collects necessary information and data, expresses its opinions
regarding governmental policies on women, draws
- recommendations for those policies as well as suggestions to
amend existing laws, conducts public education and awareness raising
activities on gender equality issues.
The National CEDAW Watch Network Center works in cooperation with
governmental and non-governmental organizations, national and international
organizations as well as individuals on the following areas:
- Women and Human Rights
- Women and Politics
- Women and Economy
- Women and Health
- Women and Family
- Women and Gender Equality
- Women and Employment
- Rural Women
- Women and Education
The Steering Committee of the National Network meets at least once
a year and performs the following tasks:
Review activity reports of Working Groups to insure the better cooperation
Incorporate amendments to the National Network Multilateral Agreement
of the member NGOs
Issue statements and documents on behalf of the National Network
